North Country Immigrant Allies (NCIA) is a group of concerned community members from across Essex, Franklin, and Clinton Counties. NCIA has engaged with the businesses that employ immigrants, the agencies where they seek services (schools, law enforcement, healthcare, etc) and the communities where they reside. NCIA has done extensive work supporting individual immigrants impacted by current federal tactics, and continues to provide trainings for businesses, schools, and individuals. We are developing a more comprehensive understanding of the issues and needs of immigrants and their communities.
The NY4All bill (A3506/S2235) provides the most comprehensive protection and here is why (Source: New York Immigration Coalition):
NY4All broadly prohibits state and local officers (not just law enforcement) from helping enforce federal immigration laws and funneling people into ICE custody, and sharing sensitive information with ICE.
NY4All places more prohibitions on ICE/CBP’s entering non-public areas of state/local property without a judicial warrant.
NY4All ensures that people in custody are given notice of their rights before being interviewed by ICE.
NY4All begins the process of limiting ICE/CBP access to state information databases.
NY4All bars all collusion, not only 287(g) agreements, but also informal assistance, information-sharing, and transfers of custody that happen even without 287(g)’s.
NY4All prohibits state/local agencies like schools, public hospitals, shelters, and more from colluding with ICE.
NY4All protections do not expire in three years.
